Watch the Gold Rush come alive!

Join us at our gold rush claim for a look at what life was used to be like in California
With a staff that lived through the gold rush (don't worry, they're not really that old) your 4th grade students and parents will learn what life was like back in 1854 just after the height of the California goldrush. We customize taylor each trip (just like you adjust your lesson plans each year) to best fit each group, so exactly what you do, and the order you do it will vary, but the basic parts you do usually includes are:
- Gold Panning right out of the American River - We'll teach you how, help you with your technique and let you keep what you find!
- Rope Making by hand - Use the rope you make as a belt, or to tie up your sleeping bag.
- Play Historical Games - 49ers brought their cultural games with them when they came to California, we'll learn and play some of the games they used to play.
- Learn how the Indians lived off the land and how there is so much food all around us.
- Take a quiet time hike where you'll be able to stop and spend some time along with God in His creation.
- Print a postcard and then mail it to yourself or a loved one back home.
- Watch our blacksmith and learn about metal working.
Stay two Nights for an even greater fourth grade adventure
Two night trips enjoy all of the above plus add a mix of the following:
- Step into our kitchen to grind some corn and make tortillas for a mid day snack.
- Churn some butter to go on your tortillas
- Take turns on the ice cream crank as you help create tonight's dessert.
- Create you very own candle.
- Work with leather to make yourself your very own gold pouch.
